Madavor Media Divests Women’s Basketball to Goldman Publishing
BOSTON, MA, January 8, 2007 – Madavor Media, LLC, a market-leading enthusiast media company, announced today that it has sold its Women’s Basketball print and e-media properties to Goldman Publishing, Inc. The divestiture is part of Madavor’s strategy to build and focus on its core titles, e-media properties and related media programs. Women’s Basketball was included as part of a group of other properties the company bought in 2004.
Women’s Basketball is the #1 publication in a fast-growing market. It is the only magazine completely focused on the sport and is well regarded by participants, coaches, fans, and league officials. Women’s basketball is the No.1 participatory sport among all NCAA women’s sports in number of teams; the NCAA sanctions 1,028 women’s basketball teams. In addition to NCAA teams, 639 additional colleges have teams sanctioned either by the NAIA or NJCAA. Furthermore, 17,175 U.S. high schools run girls basketball programs, yielding 456,543 participants. Basketball is the No. 1 participatory sport in terms of schools and players among girls' high school sports.
"We believe Goldman Publishing is a terrific home for Women’s Basketball to continue to build upon the groundwork that Madavor Media has laid. This divestiture will allow us to devote our resources to our core platform areas," said Jeffrey C. Wolk, Chairman and CEO of Madavor Media.
"We are excited about taking on another sports publication and know we can expand on the title to take it to new heights," says Todd Goldman, President and Owner of Goldman Publishing. “With a proven track record in magazine publishing shown by our successful title, Tennis Life Magazine, we believe this acquisition will be a tremendous addition to our portfolio.” “The Goldman Group has worked on this title in the past and I have great confidence in its ability to continue to build the title and promote the sport of women’s basketball," says Susan Fitzgerald, Publisher of Madavor Media.
