Madavor to Publish Inside Arts in Partnership with Association of Performing Arts Presenters

Quarterly publication addresses issues and ideas within the performing arts field

The Association of Performing Arts Presenters and Madavor, Inc. announce a new partnership to publish the organization’s magazine Inside Arts effective with the Pre-Conference issue available Nov. 4, 2011. Madavor will handle design, production and advertising sales for the magazine, with Lee Mergner, who is also the publisher of JazzTimes, as publisher. Editorial content will remain with the publication’s editor-in-chief Alicia Anstead and assistant editor Kristen Andresen.

Inside Arts is a quarterly magazine exploring issues critical to the performing arts, presenting and touring field. Presenters, artists, agents and managers rely on Inside Arts for information about booking seasons, educating patrons, planning operations and managing facilities. Anstead, who has been with Inside Arts since 2003, says the partnership has benefits beyond simple printing and design work.

“Our business is the arts, and we look to partners to embrace the creativity, beauty and discipline of the artists who drive the passion of our industry,” said Anstead, who also teaches arts journalism at Harvard Extension School and is a commentator and guest host for The Callie Crossley Show on WGBH Radio in Boston. “Madavor understands our mission, and we look forward to discovering the ways in which our individual strengths will produce a vibrant partnership.”

APAP, which is based in Washington, D.C., is the national service and advocacy organization, with more than 1,400 members worldwide, dedicated to developing and supporting a robust performing arts presenting field and the professionals who work within it. APAP members represent the nation’s leading performing arts centers, municipal and university performance facilities, nonprofit performing arts centers, culturally specific organizations, foreign governments, as well as artist agencies, managers, touring companies, and national consulting practices that serve the field, and a growing roster of self-presenting artists. As a leader in the field, APAP works to effect change through advocacy, professional development, resource sharing and civic engagement.

The association is best known for its annual conference in New York City every January. The 2011 conference featured more than 3,400 participants and 1,200 performances over five days. APAP|NYC 2012 takes place Jan. 6-10, 2012 at the Hilton New York in Midtown Manhattan.

“We are delighted to form this new relationship with an organization that keenly understands the new landscapes of media and that publishes an esteemed sister publication JazzTimes,” said Mario Garcia Durham, president and CEO of APAP.

Susan Fitzgerald, vice-president of Madavor, says that Inside Arts is a perfect complement to the company’s portfolio of magazines.

“We’re passionate about magazines, so we are pleased to be involved with a publication with such strong ties to its audience,” Fitzgerald said. “Our role is to act as a publishing consultant to the organization and do whatever it takes to keep readers and members engaged.”

Madavor’s Mike O’Leary will be handling the design and production of Inside Arts, while Dan Kelly will be the magazine’s advertising representative.
