Mag+, the platform behind Popular Science's often-hyped iPad edition, is being offered to publishers as a free download. Publishers will be allowed to build and test editions on Mag+ without charge. However, Bonnier will presumably charge for publishing Mag+ apps, tying them to iTunes Connect accounts.
While Bonnier's Mag+ apps have gotten a significant amount of attention for their showiness, they have not gone without some early criticism. We're interested in watching the program's long-term success. While initial reports showed that revenue from iPad apps were lackluster, it appears that since Apple allowed the sale of subscriptions in addition to single copies, things may be looking up.
